Abstract

Straddling is a travel memoir about an equine expedition along the northern half of the National Continental Divide Scenic Trail. The narrator, along with a dog, a horse, and two mules travels from the Canadian border to the Wyoming/Colorado border. This paper includes section one of the book manuscript. It takes readers along on the journey from Canada south to Lincoln, Montana. At several points during the manuscript, the narrator flashes back to earlier times in his life. This back and forth between front story and back helps readers understand the trip, and it them some hints about the narrator’s reasons for taking such a trip.
