Description
In this interview, Dr. Claudette Morton and Bob Brown discuss Morton’s roles in Montana public education for the past 50 years as a teacher, administrator, and on various education boards. Morton reflects on the School Foundation Program and the equalization of funding in the Montana public schools. She also talks about how in 1972, the new Montana Constitution called for the division of the Board of Education into two boards: a Board of Education for Montana public schools for K-12, and a Board of Regents for the university system. She highlights controversies on public aid to sectarian schools, efforts to establish public education for and address problems regarding racism towards Native Americans, and providing funding and teachers trained in gifted and talented education. And she touches on the early days of technology in the public schools and discusses her book A Basic System of Free Quality Education covering Montana education issues from 1972 until 2012.
