Roger Savage recalls his years working as a smokejumper based at Missoula, Montana, from 1957 until 1966, with a two-year break from 1962 to 1964 when he was in the military. He describes many of his fire jumps, the injuries he witnessed both of smokejumpers and on rescue jumps, and the social life of smokejumpers off-base at bars in Missoula. Savage also discusses working on the film A Fire Called Jeremiah.
