About This Journal
Camas aims to cultivate fresh ideas and perspectives while remaining rooted in the landscapes and traditions of art and literature in the American West. Founded by Environmental Studies graduate students at the University of Montana in 1992, Camas is a biannual literary magazine that remains student-run. Our mission is to cultivate a community of writers and artists dedicated to land health and cultural resilience in the American West. We want to celebrate the people who work and live here; we want to celebrate the land that connects us all; and we want to provide an opportunity for emerging writers and artists to publish their work alongside established voices.
