Abstract

A collection of short stories in which characters grapple with expectations, the desire to flee, and the ways in which the landscape can sabotage or enable their inner lives. In these stories, a woman kills black flies for a living, another lives with the repercussions of a massive gas spill, a lonely widow starts writing letters to a prisoner, and a young boy advocates for a troublesome grizzly bear.
