Description
Sallie Maclay Brutto begins by telling her family’s history and how they came to the Bitterroot Valley during the late 1800s. She recalls her siblings and the schools she attended as a child, as well as attending the University of Montana’s School of Journalism where she met her husband, Frank Brutto. Sallie discusses her husband’s tenure as a journalist abroad for the Associated Press during World War Two, and their experiences in Rome after the war where she and her daughter joined him. She also describes their experiences living in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s. She concludes by discussing her involvement in the Bitterroot community when they returned to the valley. Frank Brutto details his stint in Europe working as a journalist and briefly discusses living with his wife and young daughter in Rome immediately following the war.
