In this interview, Republican John Harp discusses his 20 years serving in the House and the Senate of the Montana Legislature. Harp reflects on his formative years in the Flathead Valley and his service with Montana Boys State. He also focuses on his professional career in construction, running Harp Line Construction. Harp highlights his House career, starting with his first election to the Montana House in 1980. He covers how the different reapportionments changed his district, including Evergreen, Whitefish, Lakeside, and Eureka at different times. House committees that Harp serves on consist of the Transportation Committee and the Tax Committee. In the Montana Senate, Harp represents Evergreen and Columbia Falls. He also serves in the Senate as Minority Whip and Majority Leader, and on the Senate Tax Committee and Senate Rules Committee. One of the critical issues that Harp focused on in the Senate was electrical deregulation.
