This collection includes interviews detailing the career of longtime Montana political reporter Charles S. “Chuck” Johnson. The three interviews were conducted in 2022 by University of Montana journalism professor Dennis Swibold. The first session reviewed Johnson’s journalism career from his start as a high school intern for the Helena Independent Record through his tenure as bureau chief of Helena’s Lee State Bureau. The second interview features Johnson’s recollections of the key political figures and issues he covered during his 45-year career. In the final session, Johnson talks about his mentors and those whose careers he furthered as capitol bureau chief of both The Great Falls Tribune and the Lee State Bureau. The original interviews are held as Oral History collection OH 483 at Archives and Special Collections, Mansfield Library, University of Montana-Missoula.
