Description
In this interview John Nugent, who served as Missoula Senior Center board president from 2020-2021, talks about how he came to be on the board of the Senior Center, the sources of revenue for the Center, and its activities, including its thrift store, bingo and serving meals to seniors. Nugent served as president in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic began and he discusses the impact of the pandemic on Center services, such as rapidly adapting to provide meals as a drive-through service, and receiving funding from city and federal sources that allowed the Center to continue to provide meals, continue to pay employees, and improve a portion of the Center's HVAC. He also discusses the relationship between Missoula Aging Services and the Center. During the interview Nugent shares the impact of his unexpected diagnosis of multiple myeloma while serving as president. Nugent was interviewed by Mark Spring, who served as Missoula Senior Center board president from 2021-2022.
