Abstract
Abstract This portfolio reflects the culmination of my journey to earn a Master of Social Work (MSW) and demonstrates my mastery of the 10 core competencies outlined by the University of Montana School of Social Work. Through the lens of the five elements of advanced integrated practice, this work illustrates the transformation I underwent as I developed the skills, knowledge, and values essential to ethical and effective social work practice. Each section of this portfolio provides evidence of my growth in applying critical self-reflection, integrating historical and cultural contexts, bridging direct practice with community intervention, engaging in evidence-based practices, and advancing social justice. The experiences shared here embody the sacrifices, challenges, and successes I encountered on this path, all of which have profoundly shaped me into the professional I am today.
Key highlights include my commitment to ethical and professional behavior, evidenced by my use of person-first and trauma-informed language in substance use disorder treatment. My ability to advocate for human rights and social justice is demonstrated through examples of addressing systemic inequities, such as removing barriers to housing for clients at my practicum site. Additionally, I have developed a deeper understanding of anti-racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI), which I apply by fostering culturally affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ clients and individuals of marginalized backgrounds. These competencies, alongside my research-informed practice, highlight my dedication to reflective learning, critical analysis, and effective interventions.
This portfolio not only captures my journey of professional growth but also underscores my ongoing commitment to social work's core values: the dignity and worth of every person, the pursuit of social justice, and the transformative power of compassion and evidence-based practice.
