Hazel Marsh discusses returning to Bearmouth, Montana during the 1950s to care for the ailing members of the Lannen family. She describes her divorce, attending the University of Montana, Missoula, the College of Great Falls, and Rosary College, where she earned a degree in library science in 1961. Marsh also discusses getting a job at Notre Dame University and returning to Bearmouth to care for the deteriorating Bearmouth ranch.
