This collection contains interviews detailing transition from Anaconda Company-held Montana newspapers to their sale to Lee Newspapers [currently Lee Enterprises] in 1959. The interviews were conducted in 1975 by John Newhouse, a longtime reporter for the Wisconsin State Journal. The interviewees discuss working for the newspaper during the Anaconda Company’s ownership as well as Lee Newspapers’ ownership and compare the two company’s management styles. They also talk about the difference in reporting on politics and economic issues under Lee Newspapers. The original interviews are held as Oral History collection OH 465 at Archives and Special Collections, Mansfield Library, University of Montana-Missoula.
