Mike Mansfield was a prominent politician and statesman from Montana who served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1943-1952), the U.S. Senate (1953-1977), and as Ambassador to Japan (1977-1988). He married Maureen Hayes in 1932 and they had one daughter, Dr. Anne Fairclough Mansfield, who later became a researcher and scholar based in London.
