Description

Black lacquer box with red and gold patterning abalone inlay with pattern that resembles a coral.

Box edges are curved on the lid on the longest sides (likely for ease of use). Inside of box is solid black. There is a solid black tray like piece- appears to go inside the box to hide or weigh down papers.

Presented to Mike Mansfield by the governor of Fukui prefecture when he visited Washington D.C. in 1990
