Description

A mouth organ where pipes are connected to a small, hollowed-out hardwood reservoir (windchest) into which air is blown, creating a sound similar to that of the violin.

A Khaen (or khene) is a Lao mouth organ where the pipes are typically made of bamboo and are connected with a small hollowed out hardwood reservoir. The sixteen bamboo pipes are identifies as the khaen paet. These two rows are sealed into the windchest and sealed with beeswax.
