Description

Oil painting of the Gates of the Mountains (or Gates of the Rocky Mountains), a natural landmark near Helena, Montana. The viewpoint of the painting is from shore along the Missouri River. The painting depicts some driftwood on the rocky shore with the Gates of the Mountains in the background.

Milan Toljan was born December 13, 1894 in Yugoslavia. He moved to Butte, Montana in 1912 where he opened his sign painting shop and did oil paintings on the side as a hobby.
