Description
Paul Caffrey recalls attending the Sweeney School of Aviation in Kansas City, Kansas and learning how to fly planes and work on airplane engines. He also describes trying to find work in Kansas City during the Great Depression when he had no money to move back to Montana. Caffrey reminisces about growing up on a stump farm in Perma, Montana with his six siblings, and helping his father farm in Polson, Montana, after he returned from Kansas City around 1935.
When this interview was conducted, the interviewee requested that the recorder be turned off at one point, but the recorder kept running. Archives and Special Collections has chosen to include that “off the record” portion because it pertains to homesteading in Montana and the interviewee is deceased.
