Description
Juanita Officer describes her father’s employment with the railroad which brought him to Bozeman, Montana in 1883. She talks about how her mother met him in Montana later, traveling on her own with two babies. Officer discusses growing up on the family homestead, the emphasis placed on musical education during her childhood, and her experiences working as a teacher. She talks about her marriage, her views on family planning, her volunteer work as a midwife in her community, and the birth of her own children. Officer recalls balancing ranch work on the ranch with her household duties, various trends in women’s fashion, a house fire, and the odd jobs she worked after selling the ranch.
Juanita’s sister, Florence Cowan, contributes occasionally during the interview.
