The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Montana is dedicated to the study of astronomy and astrophysics, plasma physics, atomic and molecular physics, and materials science. Research and creative scholarship by the faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy includes participation in NASA satellite projects; the study of equilibrium, stability, and transport properties of magnetic fusion energy plasmas; investigations of neutron-capture elements for the purposes of improved understanding of stellar chemical evolution; quantum interactions on a molecular scale; and nanomaterial characterization.
