Description
Richard Clearman describes his experiences as a smokejumper in Missoula, Montana, during the summers of 1952 to 1954, with particular emphasis on the procedures for fighting fires, collecting equipment after fires, and packing out. He also recalls project work building an airstrip in the Salmon River Wilderness Area in Idaho, as well as the camaraderie between the smokejumpers, the majority of whom were university students.
