Phillip Davis tells of his experiences as a smokejumper in 1948 and 1949 at the Nine Mile Ranger Station in Montana and in Missoula, Montana. He describes the training, the equipment and rations, as well as the procedures of a typical fire call. Davis discusses the 1949 Mann Gulch Fire and the impact being a smokejumper had on his later life.
