Description
Philip Difani discusses his nine-year career as a smokejumper, which started in 1967. He recalls his training in Missoula, Montana, and then operating throughout the western United States and Alaska. Difani talks about training and equipment, and how both changed during his career. He describes the relationships among smokejumpers both on duty and off-duty. Difani also comments on the changes in selection requirements, including the hiring of female smokejumpers.
