John Lester discusses his time working as a smokejumper at the North Cascades Smokejumper Base in Winthrop, Washington, from 1960 until 1966. He describes his training, equipment, and different fire jumps, and he reminisces about his fellow smokejumpers and their camaraderie. Lester speaks in detail about Francis Lufkin, a pioneer smokejumper.
