Stan Sykes discusses working as a smokejumper from 1946 to 1949 in Missoula, Montana. He describes the enthusiasm he felt for smokejumping and working in the mountains. Sykes discusses the aftermath of the 1949 Mann Gulch Fire, as well as the occasional animosity between other Forest Service employees and the smokejumpers.
