The University of Montana Black Student Union (UMBSU) at the University of Montana was formed during the 1967-1968 academic year. Since its formation, UMBSU has dedicated itself to increasing awareness about cultural diversity, mentoring minority youths in Missoula, and offering support on matters regarding discrimination and racism. During the 1970s, BSU published Watani, an alternative newspaper which later became a yearbook.
This collection consists of published materials produced by the University of Montana Black Student Union, including newsletters and Watani. To learn more about the history of UMBSU, visit the Mansfield Library’s Archives and Special Collections.
