Description
George Dennison discusses his tenure as president of the University of Montana-Missoula from 1990-2010, analyzing how higher education has changed in Montana during his time. Dennison questions increasing administrative consolidation in the Montana University System, and compares it to his time spent working in the Colorado University System. He recalls his difficulties working with and lobbying in the state legislature for university funding and struggling to establish the University’s autonomy. Dennison discusses questions of academic rigor, workforce development, and the importance of arts and humanities at the university level. He recalls the rape and sexual harassment controversies at the University of Montana, and analyzes the rising cost of college student debt. Dennison talks about the 2016 presidential race, Montana State University and University of Montana history, and the history of eugenics in Montana.
