Description
Marie Richards describes her time in the U.S. Navy, starting with boot camp in Florida and ending with her retirement from active duty. Richards tells why she entered the military and discusses her boot camp experiences. She describes attending A School in San Diego after boot camp to learn how to be a machinery repairman before transferring to a base in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Richards talks about working on a submarine there in dry-dock, getting pregnant, and how the military accommodated her pregnancy. She notes that she chose to retire from active service because she didn’t want to leave her child when the ship was scheduled to relocate to a base in Scotland.
