Description
In this interview, Monte Turner discusses serving in the Air Force, starting with basic training in 1973. After basic training, he and other recruits from Montana would go on to Security Police training. Turner mentions that he and the other recruits wanted to be deployed to Vietnam but weren’t because the conflict was ending. He was sent to Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to provide security for weapons and airplanes and later to Alaska and Oregon before leaving the Air Force in 1977. Turner talks about how, afterwards, he worked for his father’s car dealership and at a radio station in Missoula, where he subsequently met his wife. He reflects on his relationship with his stepdaughters and how his son would attend West Point and become a helicopter pilot. Turner also highlights his current participation with the Western Montana Military Officers Association (WMMOA), which meets monthly.
