Description
In this interview, Tim Sweeten talks about being born in Butte, Montana, and joining the Montana Army National Guard in 2000. He discusses his basic training, which took place in Fort Benning, Georgia. Sweeten speaks about his first deployment to Bosnia and how he wasn’t exposed to any conflicts there. Then, Sweeten discusses being deployed to Iraq Post-9/11, training Iraq’s new police force, as well as training Iraq’s military. He talks in depth about the combat he experienced over in Iraq and about how he suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that wasn’t diagnosed or treated until after he left the military. He also provides advice on diagnosing PTSD sooner for those who are still serving in the military to start treatment then, which would benefit the VA in continuing to provide treatment. And Sweeten talks about how after his service, he was able to use the GI Bill to attend and earn two degrees from the University of Montana.
