Description

Guy Rogers discusses his experience with women working in the U.S. Postal Service after World War Two in Missoula, Montana. Rogers recounts his personal work history and path to the postal service, and the challenges of implementing the Equal Pay Act of 1962. He recalls the difficulties many women encountered working in the post office, including the prejudice men held against them, and the physical obstacles they had to overcome, such as lifting 70-pound bags on a regular basis. Rogers explains the Postal Service’s attempts to create an equal-level workspace for both men and women and remembers some specific cases of employees that he uses as examples in his discussion.
