Description

Clinton Gutermuth discusses his childhood and his early interest in conservation. He talks about his involvement in conservation organizations like the American Wildlife Institute and the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference, which led to his involvement in the Boone and Crockett Club. Gutermuth discusses management programs for game species as a means for conservation. He also talks about the Club’s relationship with the National Rifle Association [NRA], and the Club’s stance on firearms regulations and restrictions. He describes various conservation projects including the Club’s collaboration with the Texas Game Commission on the creation of a protected enclosure for transplanted desert sheep in Big Bend National Park. Gutermuth discusses the Club’s involvement in conservation efforts related to the establishment of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources [IUCN], the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey, the Dinosaur National Monument, the Wichita National Wildlife Refuge, and the publication of the Craighead grizzly bear study.
