This collection relates to the second of two single channel reflection seismic surveys that were conducted at Flathead Lake. The first survey, which is described in another collection on the University of Montana (UM) ScholarWorks platform, was conducted in 1970. The second survey was conducted in the summer of 1980. The principal investigator for the 1980 survey was Anthony Qamar, then faulty geophysicist at UM. Qamar directed Jerry Kogan’s thesis research that used data from the survey. The thesis is available through another UM ScholarWorks site. The books in this collection provide details of the survey that are not in Kogan’s thesis, a track line map generated in a modern geographical information system (GIS) that is in a larger format than the corresponding map in the thesis, available scans of the field recordings, and suggestions for how to convert the scanned images to digital traces for viewing in a modern 3D seismic interpretation workstation or processing the traces with modern software.
This collection is new as of January 2026, and it is under construction. The curator hopes to have core elements built out by March 1, 2026.
