Tom Haines discusses this history of the Friends of the Library organization. He describes how he first got involved with the Friends, the early years of the organization, their vision, and difficulties the members faced as they were getting the program off the ground. Haines also discusses some of the Friends of the Library’s success stories, fundraising banquets, and the role that the Friends played in getting the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library built. Throughout the interview, he discusses other members and patrons of the organization, including Paul Gillespie, Sumner Gerard, Arthur Deschamps, Virginia Johnson, Tommy Lou, and Bob Watt.
