Abstract

This Master of Social Work (MSW) portfolio reflects my professional development as a social worker within the Fort Belknap Indian Community, integrating academic learning with employment-based practicum experience. Grounded in person-in-environment, systems theory, strengths-based practice, and social justice frameworks, this portfolio demonstrates the application of social work competencies across direct practice, policy, research, and leadership.

Through my work in child welfare and my current role as a planner and grant writer, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of how individual, community, and systemic factors influence well-being. This portfolio demonstrates my ability to bridge micro and macro practice by supporting individuals and families while also advancing systems-level change through program development, policy implementation, and resource acquisition. My experience in grant writing illustrates how securing funding and building programs are critical forms of social work that expand access to services and strengthen community infrastructure.

The portfolio is organized around the ten core social work competencies and demonstrates growth in ethical practice, cultural humility, anti-racist and equity-centered approaches, and leadership within Indigenous communities. Particular emphasis is placed on advocating for social, economic, and environmental justice, while recognizing the historical and structural inequities impacting Tribal communities.

Overall, this portfolio reflects my commitment to community-centered advocacy, culturally responsive practice, and sustainable systems change. It highlights the integration of education and professional experience in preparing me to contribute meaningfully to the social work profession and to support the long-term well-being and self-determination of Indigenous communities.
