In this interview, Karyn Ridgeway discusses moving to Missoula, Montana in middle school, her passion for and involvement in sports, and how, in high school, she found herself as a plaintiff in one of the nations first Title IX cases, fighting for equity in sports in Montana public schools. Along with the complexities of the case and the challenges she faced as a young female athlete, she discusses her time after high school in Colorado studying music, her desire to return to basketball, and how she eventually found her way back to Missoula and onto the Lady Griz team. Karyn talks about playing for Robin Selvig, her time at U of M, and how she made her way into professional coaching. She shares how, after coaching, she went back to school for medicine, and now practices as an ER doctor in Mineral County, Montana. She talks about living in Missoula with her family. Interviewer Arizona Duff was a graduate student working on the Griz Nation Oral History Project as part of the Griz130 History Initiative.
