Interviewer
Erin Heaton
Description
Bree Sutherland (she/they) discusses her choice as a transgender electrician in Missoula, Montana to move to Portland, Oregon with her wife Charlotte Macorn, in search of a more queer-friendly environment. Sutherland describes her experiences in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality classes at the University of Montana, her role in the formation of the Gender Expansion Project, and overall involvement in activism. Sutherland shares how this work opened new opportunities for self-exploration in terms of understanding her own identity as a fluid dynamic rather than static label. She has found living in Portland to be much more favorable in terms of feeling comfortable and safe as a trans woman.
