Description
In this interview, Alex Butler shares that he was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After high school, he joined the Army and served on active duty from 2008 through 2014. Butler’s Military Occupational Specialty or MOS was Infantry. He attended basic training, Airborne School, and then the Ranger Indoctrination Program at Fort Benning, Georgia. Butler served during two deployments to Afghanistan from approximately 2009 to 2010. The final rank that Butler had when he left the Army was as a sergeant, E-5. His leadership role was as a team leader. Butler was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Joint Service Achievement Medal, as well as various coins from high-level commanders. After leaving the Army, Butler joined the Montana National Guard. At the time of this interview, he was still serving in the Montana National Guard and was attending law school at the University of Montana.
