Tracy Mitchell is from Boulder, MT and retired Major in the U.S. Army. She first joined the U.S. Army Reserve after High School and enrolled in Carroll College in Helena, MT. She was a Non-Commissioned Officer until she graduated from Carroll College in 2003 and submitted her Direct Commissioner Packet to become a Commissioned Officer. This baptism by fire furthered her career as she deployed to Iraq from 2004-2005. Afterwards she became an Army ROTC Contractor at the University of Montana, Missoula. She retired from the U.S. Army after 22 honorable years of service in 2019. Mitchell currently works as Scholarship and Enrollment Officer for the University of Montana, Missoula’s ROTC Program. Mitchell discusses the many opportunities that are available to men and women who may want to join the ROTC program, including several grant and scholarship opportunities available to them. Mitchell describes the process of going through the entire cadet program at the University of Montana as well as the educational and physical requirements cadets achieve. Mitchell details her time at the University of Montana, helping and assisting many cadets throughout their early career in becoming an officer. Mitchell reminisces over the hardships and blessings she has been given by the University of Montana, and the Army in becoming the person she is. Mitchell shares the impact and importance of supporting women in the military, including how vast the opportunities there are for both men and women in joining the U.S. Army right after high school and becoming an officer.
