Description
Anne Harris recounts her life in the Midwest and Montana as a trans woman and licensed professional counselor. She describes her daily routine in Missoula, living with her partner and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She describes her career, including her work with sex offenders and LGBTQ people. She then describes her family’s history in the Midwest, her upper middle-class childhood in Ohio, and her father’s military service and alcoholism. She talks about dressing in women’s clothes in private until her mid-30s, and her fear of rejection if she came out. She describes transitioning in 1998 with the support of her second wife, and how her clients and colleagues responded. She discusses how people perceived her and her gender before and after transitioning, how her children responded, and how she values the community of women. She talks about being abused by her father and about his own queerness. Harris then talks about her experience as a Christian and her current clinical work with LGBTQ youth.
