These ledgers contain the meeting minutes of the University Local Executive Board, a governing body of the University of Montana in Missoula. The Local Executive Board was a part of the legislature put in place by Governor Edwin L Norris in 1909 to restructure the higher education governance of the four schools in the State. For each university, the Executive Board was led by the university President as chairman and two prominent leaders from the surrounding community who were officially appointed and confirmed by the Governor and State Board, respectively. The Executive Board was beholden to the State Board and committees and discussed topics such as campus grounds and maintenance, curriculum, personnel, student funds, and university finances. The three volumes (I-III) cover the years 1909-1913, 1912-1919, and 1919-1943 with J. B. Speer serving as secretary, spanning the university presidencies of Clyde Duniway, Edwin Craighead, E. O. Sisson, Charles H. Clapp, George F. Simmons, and Ernest O. Melby.
